Job description:
We are seeking an experienced Research Associate to join our multidisciplinary team driving cutting-edge research in optical gain, amplification, and lasing in perovskite optoelectronic structures and devices. Central to this role is the advanced design, fabrication, and characterization of photonic devices, including resonant cavity LEDs, thin-film waveguides and ring-waveguides. You will lead the fabrication and basic characterisation of perovskite materials and devices, and work with a team that includes a number of dedicated specialists in ultra-fast laser spectroscopy.
The successful candidate will take charge of depositing 2D and 3D perovskite and organic thin films using both solution processing and thermal evaporation techniques. These materials will then be engineered into light emitting diodes, or micropatterned using micro- and nano-lithographic techniques. Materials and devices will be explored by our spectroscopy researchers for lasing and optical amplification. As part of your work, you will optimize LED microcavity devices for efficient light emission while testing and characterizing optoelectronic properties. You will also develop patterning techniques to create optical waveguides and ring-resonators. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent recent experience in physical science or engineering, and ideally have direct recent expertise in perovskite synthesis and the development of high-brightness perovskite light-emitting diodes. Experience in fabrication of microcavity devices, micro- or nanopatterning techniques and optical modelling will also be advantageous.
This Leverhulme Foundation project is run by Prof David Lidzey, and involves both inorganic and organic ultra-fast spectroscopists (Prof Dima Krizhanovskii and Prof Jenny Clark), and materials chemist Dr Alex Ramadan. You will be based in the Electronic and Photonic Molecular Materials (EPMM) group in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS). For informal enquiries, please contact Prof. David Lidzey (d.g.lidzey@sheffield.ac.uk).
