Introduction:
The Brahmal Institute invites applications for its October 2027 Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Aviation (DPSA). Under the 2027 strategic theme “sustainability across stakeholders”, the cohort will undertake interdisciplinary research addressing aviation sustainability from a systems perspective, recognising the interconnected roles of airports, airlines, air traffic management, aircraft and passengers. Alongside their individual projects, students will benefit from shared learning, specialist training, networking and outreach, fostering collaboration to drive system-wide change towards more sustainable aviation.
Project overview:
This project will use multi-agent-based modelling to investigate how airlines and fuel producers respond to market-based solutions for sustainable aviation fuels. It will evaluate how carbon pricing, mandates, subsidies and other policy combinations can accelerate SAF investment, adoption and emissions reduction across the aviation system to 2050.
You will explore how stakeholder interactions, fuel supply constraints and policy incentives shape the transition to sustainable aviation fuels, generating insights to inform effective, economically viable decarbonisation strategies.
