The Role
We are looking to appoint a Research Associate to work across the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) and Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) North East North Cumbria, which will mainly focus upon projects related to COVID-19 that have been prioritised by regional stakeholders.

You will be based within the Population Health Sciences Institute at Newcastle University, but will also work with researchers at the Academic Health Science Network and Teesside University on a collaborative project recently funded by the NHS Insights Prioritisation Programme, which aims to evaluate a digital remote consultation approach for reducing high opioid use.

You will be expected to collaborate with regional stakeholders to undertake formal mixed methods evaluation. You are expected to have significant post-doctoral experience in the design, analysis and reporting of applied health research.

This role is a full-time role but part-time and flexible working arrangements will be considered.

This is a fixed-term role until 30 June 2023.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage a project to evaluate the benefits, risks and costs following ‘at scale' implementation of a digital remote consultation approach for reducing high opioid use.
  • Support the design and delivery of prioritised applied research projects that meet the objectives.
  • Develop and manage research objectives and resulting activities.
  • Apply appropriate methods to collect and analyse both quantitative data (involving routine NHS data) and qualitative data (stakeholder interviews).
  • Organise and undertake PPI activities and maintain a good relationship with them.
  • Interpret results and generate original ideas based on outcomes.
  • Report and encourage the use of research findings to inform the development and delivery of relevant health and social care within the region.
  • Take part in knowledge-transfer activities where appropriate and feasible.
  • Prepare peer-reviewed articles and present research results through publication or other recognised forms of output, e.g. peer-reviewed journals, reports and conference presentations at local, national and international levels.
  • Collaborate and facilitate links with clinicians, researchers and relevant ARC and AHSN stakeholders and other NIHR funded structures, to promote research development and delivery.
  • Through these activities, support the development of relevant internal and external research funding applications with ARC and AHSN collaborators.
  • Assist with preparation of project outputs e.g. progress reports, publications and other dissemination activities such as conference presentations.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in a relevant topic area.
  • A Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant topic area.
