The post holder will assist with the production and dissemination of the GUS group’s annual student returns to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and advises the director and deputy director of admissions on the recording and holding of student data, in compliance with statutory requirements as dictated by HESA and HEFCE. The post holder will also assist with the processing of the Destination of leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) submissions and processes information to ensure an accurate and timely return of this information; whilst advising other Departments on the compilation of this data in order to ensure compliance with HESA/HEFCE requirements

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Analysing the data for the College’s AP Student and DLHE returns, ensuring its compliance with HEFCE requirements and making recommendations to the director and deputy director for changes to the management of student data across the College to ensure statutory compliance
  • Responsibility for all tasks relating to the timely submission of the required HESA returns by the required deadline(s)
  • Keeping abreast of changes in HESA/HEFCE policies and procedures and advising on potential changes to processes
  • Managing the integrity of all applicant and current student data to ensure compliance with HESA/HEFCE regulations and advising senior management on best practice for this
  • Awareness of evolving regulations and new fields within HESA to ensure that College systems are always capable of producing the student returns to HESA and HEFCE in the required format
  • Providing advice and training sessions to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements for all responses involving student information


  • Bachelor Degree
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to lead and present at meetings
  • Board experience of working with statistical returns, displayed through relevant on the job experience 
  • A history of working in an Education environment is desirable
  • Understanding the impact that governmental returns can have on the sector is desirable
  • Experience of working in a Higher Education Institution
  • Experience of working with large volumes of data
  • Proven experience as a cooperative team member who can also work independently
  • Experience of providing a responsive, customer-focused service on the telephone, via electronic medium and face to face
  • Experience of working with student HESA returns
  • Experience of training staff on databases/systems
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures is desirable
  • Experience of researching material and compiling reports thereof is desirable
