1+3/+3 PhD in Economics

The Department of Economics at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) is inviting applications for entry into its PhD and Integrated PhD (one-year Master’s plus three-year Doctoral study) programmes. These programmes are aimed at high-calibre students who wish to pursue a research career in academia, government, research organisations, or in business.

PhD students in the Department work within a high-quality research active environment. LUMS is consistently ranked in UK’s Top 10 and among the world’s Top 100 business schools, and Lancaster University is ranked in the Top 10 in all three major UK university league tables and in the Top 1% of universities globally. PhD students enjoy close supervision by a group of well-established faculty members that specialise in their research topic, and have access to a wide range of advanced research training courses, which are provided in coordination with the ESRC-funded North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP). Students also participate in a large number of departmental activities such as seminar series, workshops and conferences. 

Applications are welcome in all fields of economics. PhD positions linked to the following research projects are also available:

  • The Economics of Child Support in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions
  • Housing Markets and the Macroeconomy in collaboration with the Bank of England

LUMS and ESRC Scholarships

LUMS and ESRC scholarships are available for outstanding students from all nationalities. The scholarships cover tuition fees, and include a maintenance allowance of £14,296 pa for LUMS-funded students, and £17,296 pa for ESRC-funded students.
