University College London Union (UCLU) is the representative body for University College London’s (UCL) 37,000 students. UCLU is a not for profit charity employing over 90 full-time staff who work with seven elected student Sabbatical Officers to deliver a wide range of services and representative functions to one of the most diverse student communities in the world.
UCLU is going through an exciting period of change lead by a newly appointed Senior Management Team including the Head of Finance. For the finance team this will encompass a review and development of current systems and culture, ultimately creating an environment where staff, students and stakeholders can access the Union’s Finance function efficiently and the various departments are provided with timely, accessible, and accurate information, specialised expertise and support. The post holder will play a key role in undertaking these changes.
A new position of Systems Manager has been created and is being recruited to develop systems across the organisation, the Finance Operations Manager will work closely with the Systems Manager in developing finance systems.
The Finance Operations Manager will work with the Head of Finance for the preparation and completion of both the management and statutory accounts and providing regular and accurate management information. The post oversees the management of the income and sales areas including cashiering duties. The post holder will undertake a variety of other accounting duties in a busy office environment, working independently with minimum supervision whilst exercising judgement to prioritise tasks in order to meet the tight deadlines set.
While the role will not have direct line management duties, the Finance Operations Manager will work closely and technically support the three Finance Officers (one part-time).
- The role holder must be qualified to degree level or equivalent and CCAB qualified or qualified by experience.
- They must also have significant experience in a finance department including the production of statutory and management accounts and sound knowledge and experience of VAT.
- The successful candidate will have good knowledge of current accounting software systems and be a skilled user of IT.
