Information Systems Project Manager

University of Cumbria - IT Services

PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT RE-APPLY

An exciting opportunity has arisen, in sight of the Lake District fells, in a permanent role offering an average salary pension scheme and generous annual leave entitlement of 35 days per year. The University of Cumbria is a young, forward-looking University with campuses in Ambleside, Carlisle, Lancaster and around this uniquely beautiful region. Fell-walking, mountain biking, water sports and cultural heritage all make this a great place to live and work. Fast road and rail links with Manchester, the Midlands, London and Scotland make it easy to keep in touch with family and friends.

This is a time of great development for the university, which was recently voted second nationally for graduate employability.

On the cusp of our 10th anniversary, we have a fast growing research reputation, increasing profile and place alongside national and international employers as well as multi-million-pound campus investments and exciting ambitions for the future.

This permanent role has been created to provide structured, professional project management and leadership for a number of major university-wide changes in the pipeline. The initial focus is on modernising our student-facing websites and staff intranet using SharePoint/Office365 and other modern web technologies. Although based in the IT Services department, the role will provide leadership across organisation boundaries to co-ordinate work in Marketing, Library and Student Services, Student and Academic Services etc. as well as central IT and external SharePoint consultants.

You will be a highly experienced project manager, with strong communication and senior influencing skills. You will have extensive experience of implementing Information Systems and co-ordinating technical work, process review, user testing, project communication etc. Experience of SharePoint projects would be an advantage, but training will be provided for the right candidate. Of primary importance will be your enthusiasm, energy, flexibility and ability to lead a team, and equally key will be your customer-facing skills and ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues – including senior management.

Your experience will enable you to thrive within a formal project methodology (e.g. PRINCE2 or similar) whilst maintaining a degree of flexibility. You will feel confident in working with project teams drawn from a range of professional services and academic departments, outside of any formal line management responsibility.

Informal enquiries should be directed to: Geoff Houlton, Head of Information Systems, Email: Geoff.houlton@cumbria.ac.uk or by Tel: 01524 590800

Closing date: Sunday 11 December 2016 (Midnight)

Interview date: Week commencing 19 December 2016
