Data Migration Specialist
University of Birmingham
|Salary:||£29,301 to £40,523|
|Contract Type:||Contract / Temporary|
|Placed on:||29th November 2016|
|Closes:||3rd January 2017|
The University of Birmingham is seeking to recruit a Data Migration Specialist for its ambitious and transformational programme to replace its core Finance and HR/Payroll systems – the New Core programme. This is providing an opportunity to re-design its core business processes and create efficient business systems appropriate for a world-leading University, providing improved business intelligence and management information over the next 10 – 20 years.
This is a massive change management programme that will substantially change the way the University operates. It will promote a single view of the truth and enable a significant level of process standardisation and harmonisation leading to reduced levels of customisation. This will bring with it increased simplification and leaner processes which are more intuitive and quicker to use reducing the overall administrative burden. In recognition of the increasing importance of mobile technologies in today’s workplace, the programme will also enable solution delivery via remote and mobile technologies.
In tandem with the replacement of core systems, the objective of the project is to improve and adapt business processes. It is envisaged that the New Core project will deliver the replacement of the University’s HR, Payroll and Finance systems using Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications in phased stages from mid-2017 to mid-2018. In conjunction with the New Core implementation partners, the Data Migration Specialist will manage and develop data migration plans and processes for all aspects of this complex project, reporting to the Data Migration Lead. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in the other New Core work streams to carry out analysis, design, development, testing and execution of required data migration processes. This work will run through all phases of the project, including design, build, acceptance and release.
The post holder’s main responsibilities are to analyse, design, develop, test, implement and support database applications to support the extraction of data from existing legacy systems, transforming that data to meet the requirements of the target systems in accordance with business requirements, the subsequent loading of that data into those systems and the monitoring and progressing of any errors arising from that process. The post holder will be able to demonstrate proficiency in developing PL/SQL, classic ASP, ASP.NET (either using VB or C#) systems with backend access to Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server data sources. In addition, the post holder will be able to process data from more localised data stores e.g. MS-Excel, MS-Access into the target environment as may be required.
