Research Information Analyst

University of Cambridge - Academic Division

The University of Cambridge Research Strategy Office (RSO) seeks a Research Information Analyst to support the University's submission for the Research Excellence Framework (REF2021). This is an excellent opportunity to join the University’s RSO at an exciting time and in a dynamic role.

REF is the national system for assessing the quality of UK universities’ research, determining block-grant funding of over £1.6 billion per year. 87% of University of Cambridge submissions for REF2014 were rated as 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent'.

The role-holder will work closely with the REF team to help develop robust reporting facilities for colleagues around the University addressing Publications recording (including Open Access), Impact, interdisciplinary, and intra- and inter-institution projects. They will work closely with RSO and Strategic Partnerships Office (SPO) to develop procedures to support information-sharing activities for the Senior Management of the University (the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Heads of Schools and Heads of Divisions) as well as supporting the reporting of research information to Faculties and Departments. This will include seeking and exploiting opportunities for improvements in the processes of both Offices, and communicating with colleagues in Faculties and Departments to survey and satisfy reporting needs in preparation for REF2021.

The role-holder will assist development of bespoke applications of data and information to support the work of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research and the Research Policy Committee and collaboration with colleagues at RSO, ROO and SPO to support the University's response to external funding opportunities. They will be required to represent the University at internal and sector-wide fora, focusing on the need to develop both national and international database infrastructures for management information purposes. They will also work closely with colleagues across the University in implementing a strategy on gathering and analysing research information for internal and external projects, e.g. to aid key University Bodies in their decision-making processes.

The role-holder will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and will be confident addressing and communicating highly nuanced information with a wide range of stakeholders. Educated to degree-level or higher, the role-holder will ideally have experience of working in a Higher Education context.
