The theoretical particle physics group (PPT) at the University of Edinburgh has a two year position to assist the DiRAC technical working group with the optimisation and development of codes for the STFC DiRAC supercomputing facility, migrating them to the DiRAC 2.5 Service.

The facility presently provides three x86 infiniband clusters (Leicester, Cambridge HPCS, and Durham), one SGI UV2000 (Cambridge COSMOS) and a 1.26Pflop/s IBM BlueGene/Q system.

The refreshed facility will comprise several x86 compatible clusters with both GPU accelerated, Intel Many Core and standard x86 computing nodes.

The benchmarking will support a suite of codes in high energy theoretical physics, astrophysics and cosmology.

You will employ high-quality technical analysis and software design skills to produce novel technical solutions to deliver high-quality code optimisation of several UK academic research codes in these research areas. Your work may involve engaging with external industrial companies to exploit novel and emerging architectures. Some element of the effort will be spent on porting codes from shared memory systems to distributed memory message passing clusters.

You should preferably have a PhD in either a computational scientific discipline or have a degree in informatics with a strong preference of Masters level or above.
