Salary: This appointment will be made on the HSE New Entrant Type B Academic Consultant salary scale at a point in line with current Government pay policy (and will be commensurate with experience)

Post Summary

Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, and St James’s Hospital seek to appoint an Associate Professor /Consultant Physician in Medical Gerontology with an academic interest in frailty. The post will be based at Mercer’s Institute for Successful Ageing (MISA), St James’s Hospital and the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI), Lloyd Building, Trinity College Dublin.

The successful applicant will have a distinguished reputation in research in the field of ageing and will be expected to provide leadership in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Discipline of Medical Gerontology and in the interdisciplinary curricular teaching, supervision and mentoring (content, career and research) of GBHI Fellows, in addition to clinical responsibility. This post provides an exciting opportunity to lead developments in the area of ageing and frailty (including inflammation) and in relevant research clusters, which are of strategic focus for the School of Medicine, GBHI and St James’s Hospital.

The appointee will be able to avail of an outstanding environment for research and scholarly endeavour, and will be expected to engage with new research initiatives within the School of Medicine, the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), and the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI). They will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources such as TILDA, MISA, the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI), GBHI, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI) and Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (TCIN). The appointee will work closely with the newly appointed Associate Professor Consultant in the Psychiatry of Old Age to co­ordinate the delivery of the GBHI mission.
