Project Details:  The new interdisciplinary Leverhulme Doctoral School in Nature-Inspired Acoustics (NIA) (www.nia-leverhulme.org.uk) is seeking excellent candidates for its first cohort of PhD students.

Biomimicry studies nature's scientific principles and uses them as inspiration for designs or processes with the goal of solving human problems. The interdisciplinary research of the new doctoral school aims to develop novel interdisciplinary research approaches to better identify biological proof-of-principle insights, and pioneer discoveries in basic materials science and measurement sciences to develop technologies for creating complex biomimetic acoustic structures, sensors and networks.

Applications are sought from those with a strong undergraduate degree in Psychology for research studentships focussed on judgment and decision making in anticipating the future. The studentships will explore the quality of individual and group judgments about future technological change and the usefulness of structured approaches to improving judgment and decision making, such as Delphi and Scenario Planning.

Successful applicants will have a strong background in experimental design and analysis and a background knowledge of research in behavioural decision making / judgment and decision making.

Successful applicants should have experience in research or a project at the bachelor’s or master’s level. They should further demonstrate keen intellectual curiosity and excellent communication skills to contribute to our interdisciplinary programme.
