Location: DeHavilland Campus, Hatfield
Hertfordshire Business School are pleased to be able to offer this newly created role, which have been introduced to support students in academic and pastoral processes. This new post is intended to enhance existing support the school has in place, specifically at first year undergraduate.
You will be one of a dedicated team of trained personal tutors who will manage the day-to-day work of supporting, advising and connecting students to the most appropriate service. This role will provide face to face and online support with a strong on-campus presence.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be expected to support students to fully engage with their programme and community to help them to succeed in their chosen subject, working closely with university and school academic and support staff. Providing personalised support to students in academic and pastoral processes.
You will be the named point of contact for HBS students within the HBS Student Experience Team, which provides a holistic consistent experience for all HBS students throughout the academic year; you will also be allocated a group of students within our undergraduate programmes, ensuring that the students feel fully supported when they require help and are connected with the appropriate Programme Leaders, programme teams and service(s) as and when required.
The post will also require you to support the orientation and induction of new students at the University, and support student engagement activities within the University. You will work closely with the Student Support Services, Academic and Wellbeing teams across the university, highlighting any issues at an early stage.
Additionally, you will act as a personal tutor to students, providing advice and support, and delivering some teaching as required.
Skill and experience required
You will be expected to have knowledge of and sensitivity to the complex areas of student support and excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and develop related knowledge and skills as required for the position.
Excellent planning, organisational, time management skills, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and being proficient in English Language will also be required. In addition to this you will have the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, deal with conflicting demands and priorities with high level attention to detail and handle sensitive material with strict confidentiality.
You will be flexible and adaptable to workload and student requirements, have a passion for providing excellent student experience and be committed in your approach to issues related to equality and diversity.
Qualifications required
You must hold a minimum of a Degree, or equivalent level 6 qualification, in a relevant subject area or relevant proven experience.
