About us

UCL is London’s Global University and ranked 9th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2024). A new Institutional Strategy is underpinned by six key enablers, all of which require good data management and reporting (operational and strategic).

Student Operations is responsible for the student record - its management and quality - as well as the principal functions supporting the student lifecycle (e.g. exams, timetabling, curriculum information). The directorate is also responsible for student statutory reporting to external stakeholders (e.g. HESA, OfS, GMC). There is a close working relationship between Student Operations and SRS Education Services, as well as with the Office of the Vice-Provost (Education & Student Experience).

About the role

As the Head of Student Data Quality, you will be a convincing leader with social intelligence and expertise in data analysis at a senior level, capable of moving the business forward with your experience of improving data quality for decision making. You will have an aptitude for collaborative working and demonstrate the value of team building, influencing and teaching/mentoring.

You will work with the Head of Student Data to ensure that the two teams operate as a coherent function aligned to the University’s strategy. You will work closely with colleagues in SRS, across Faculties and other Professional Services - especially the Information Services Division (ISD) - and the University’s Change and Digital Portfolios, to understand and deliver business requirements through the services of your team. You will deliver outputs that enable the University’s improvement initiatives in education and student experience to be understood from a data perspective.

At all times you will ensure that service level agreements are met and that data being collected, curated and/or managed by Student Operations are of the highest quality for both internal and external consumption. You will co-create a framework including appropriate metrics to monitor data quality across all of SRS. You will be responsible for reporting on agreed KPIs to a range of senior stakeholders and be responsible for overseeing the outcomes. You will define what first-class data quality management looks like at UCL and will work to embed best practice within the organisation.
