The School of Histories and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Roman History, Culture, and Society. The primary purpose of this post is to consolidate and expand teaching provision, and to broaden the scope of research in the areas of Roman history, culture, and society with a new research strand in the contemporary political understanding of the ancient Roman past. Applicants should have a research specialism in any aspect of Roman history, culture, and society, and demonstrable interests in the cultural and historical legacies of the Roman empire.  Areas of specialisation that would especially meet these aims could include (but are not limited to) the subaltern histories of local and peripheralized communities across Rome’s colonial empire, the social histories of their adaptation and integration, marginalization or migration within and beyond empire, local negotiations of authority and rule, Roman imperialism and its social, political, and cultural legacies, ethics and political science (ancient and modern), ancient economy, trade, and mobility.  The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to core teaching needs across three of our joint honour degree programmes in Classics (Ancient History and Archaeology (AHA); Classical Civilisation (CC); Joint Honours (JH) Classical Languages (Latin) and our common entry programme, Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology (CLAHA), and to the School's multidisciplinary degree in Ancient Medieval History and Culture (AMHC). They will also offer advanced undergraduate and postgraduate (MPhil) modules relating to their areas of research.
