We seek to appoint a new Professor in the field of Product Development to take lead in bringing new technologies to society through focus on sustainable design, sustainable products, product’s service life and disposal, product’s life cycle and the socio-technical challenges related to products. 

With this professorship we want to enhance the research aim of the department to be leading in research within technology implementation through design and product development and product life cycle as a framework for implementation of new technologies. 

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within technology implementation through design with focus on sustainable and industrial design, and product development with focus on the product service life and life cycle. Your expertise in product development will influence the department’s activities at two levels. At department level you will contribute with your expertise in product development in e.g. the field of power engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering and civil engineering. At section level, your expertise will drive our research agenda of sustainable design and sustainable products with perspectives of the product development phases and modelling with design drivers, e.g. user needs, stakeholder management, production processes, interfaces and data management, sustainability, digital potential etc. 

You will work with nearby colleagues, academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to: 

  • Take leadership at different stages of project development, including the seeding of ideas to identify scientific knowledge gaps of relevance and match with funding opportunities
  • Execute multidisciplinary projects with diverse team members from mechanical engineering to designers and users from different institutions and companies
  • Lead your research area and be highly visible in the international networks of relevance though publications and collaborations
  • Teach within multiple BEng study programs, with different perspectives within product development: design modelling, design thinking, human centered design, sustainable design, industrial design and product development.
  • Supervise bachelor, master and PhD projects
  • Develop integrated laboratory activities, tests, and experiments with a focus on technology implementation. 

Our expectations to you are the following: 

  • Documented research experience and excellence in industrial design, design modelling and analysis
  • A clear vision for the research field, the development of the research group and the collaboration within DTU and abroad
  • Experience with scientific advice for authorities within growth and business promotion as well as working closely with industry
  • A clear strategy for which collaborators at other research institutions to engage with, with which industries to initiate collaboration with, and how to provide advice to governmental agencies on the newest knowledge in the field
  • An experienced leader of technological implementation with solid experience within management of research and staff
