As the Electrical Systems Senior Technical Specialist in our Programme Maintenance team, you will play a pivotal role in managing and upgrading our electrical systems and infrastructure. In this influential position, you will manage upgrades to electrical infrastructure, lead system design discussions, collaborate with stakeholders ensuring compliance with the electrical regulations. The role will require you collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, lead discussions on system designs, and manage critical inspections and maintenance contracts such and fixed electrical testing, RCD testing and arranging LV shutdowns across campus. The role will also require you to manage various electrical related maintenance projects identified on the University’s Forward Maintenance Plan.

You will be required to forge strong relationships with our Estates teams, contractors, and University functions. You will act as the go to person for electrical systems expertise, actively contributing to policy development.

In conjunction with the Contract Team, you will lead external contractors and assist in developing SLAs and KPIs for electrically related maintenance contracts.

From overseeing maintenance upgrades to providing technical advice and managing contracts, your hands-on approach will ensure the efficiency and safety of our electrical systems. This role will be crucial in managing the installation and maintenance of our LV Network across the university of Reading.

We are looking for candidates with an HNC or equivalent in electrical building services with a degree in an electrical based subject being preferred. You will have passed the 18th edition wiring regulations exam and your experience in a responsible role managing electrical compliance is crucial.

You will have/be:

  • Experience in a similar role with full responsibility for electrical compliance of a large complex site or contract
  • A HNC in an Electrical related subject
  • An effective manager with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation affecting the built estate including experience of risk assessment processes
  • An Understanding of contracts, procurement & service provisions
  • Qualification in 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Significant experience in Project Management together with the design, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems
  • Flexible, well organised and able to project a professional image
  • Prepared to work outside normal working hours
  • Hold a current driver’s license as this role involves driving between campuses.
