Lecturer/Reader in Data Science

Queen's University Belfast - Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology - School of Mathematics and Physics

The School comprises two teaching divisions (Mathematics and Physics), each with a head of teaching; and six Research Centres. There is a considerable crossover between these areas and the ethos of the School is one of excellence in research informing excellence in teaching.

The mission of ECIT is to expand the possibilities of a future digital society, and accelerate economic growth through research and innovation. As one of only four Global Research Institutes at Queen’s, we have significant plans for growth and ambitions to further develop as a world leader in research and innovation in the complementary fields of cyber security, wireless technologies, scalable computing and data science.

As part of a major investment in Mathematical Sciences at Queen’s, applications are invited for the above post, to start as soon as practically feasible. This is a joint post between the School of Mathematics and Physics and the Institute of Electronics, Communication and Information Technology.

Both the University and the School of Mathematics and Physics hold a silver Athena SWAN award.

The post holder will join a dynamic research environment in a supportive and collegial setting at an exciting time, to develop fundamental research in Data Science and enhance mathematics education at Queen’s University Belfast.

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding ability and potential. They will be research-driven and willing to play a decisive role in the future development of Data Science at Queen’s, in collaboration with academics within the University and beyond. He/She will be Academic Fellows of the Institute of Electronics, Communication and Information Technology (ECIT) at Queen’s.

Preference may be given to candidates specialising in Network Science, Machine Learning or Combinatorial Optimisation, but strong candidates from all fields of Data Sciences will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Salary scale:

Lecturer (established): £39,992 - £49,149 per annum (potential to progress to £52,132 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)

Reader: £50,618 - £58,655 per annum (potential to progress to £64,079 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
