The development of artificial leaves that photocatalytically convert water to hydrogen and oxygen is crucial to exploit the solar energy and provide alternative feedstocks to fossil fuels. In this MISE-funded project we will aim to develop photoanodes coupled to bimetallic Oxygen Evolution Reation catalysts, to minimise the electron-hole recombination and increase the charge transfer. 

This project will be based in the group of Dr. Salvador Eslava in the Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Bath. This group consists of a multidisciplinary team of 6 PhDs and two postdocs embracing a wide range of expertise in chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering. This Department of Chemical Engineering is top 3 in the UK for Chemical Engineering (The Times Good University Guide 2015) and obtained 100% overall student satisfaction (National Student Survey 2014 and 2015). Collaboration will be kept with colleagues at University of Bath (the Department of Chemistry and the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies) and Universities of Cardiff and Bristol. Finally, the candidate will be part of three EPSRC networks (CO2Chem, Solar Fuels network, and UK and Ireland Semiconductor Photochemistry Network), which will provide further opportunities for networking and disseminating his/her research in addition to conferences. 

Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering or other suitable subject. Experience in photoanodes is desirable. The position involves laboratory work and requires good communication skills.

This post is full time (36.5 hours per week) and is being offered on a fixed-term contract basis, with a preferred start date of 1 August 2018 and an anticipated end date of 23 November 2018.
