We are looking to appoint a permanent full-time Instructor in Tibetan, to commence as soon as possible. The Instructor will give instruction in Tibetan language, and undertake administration, course development and examining when required.
Teaching shall be required principally for the MPhil in Tibetan and Himalayan Studies, the MSt in Oriental Studies with Tibetan, and those degrees that offer a Tibetan language option: the MPhil in Buddhist Studies, the FHS in Japanese, Chinese, and Sanskrit, and the undergraduate joint degree in Oriental Studies and Theology and Religion.
In addition, the Tibetan language instructor supports DPhil and MPhil students in translating Tibetan primary sources for their research.
The Instructor will work closely with the Faculty’s academic staff in Inner and South Asian Studies, forming part of a wider group of teaching staff covering the languages, literatures, history, religion and culture of the Indian Sub-continent and the Himalayas.
The successful candidate will have a native or near native command of Tibetan and an equivalent command of English. They will be able to demonstrate a commitment to dynamic and effective language teaching, and they will have experience teaching Tibetan as a foreign language in a university or equivalent higher educational institution. Ideally, they will also have completed a first degree or postgraduate qualification in Tibetan language, language pedagogy or applied linguistics (or another relevant field in which Tibetan language forms the focus).
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 5 September 2018. Interviews are expected to be held on the week commencing Monday 17 September 2018.
