The School of Communication and Culture invites applications for the position of associate professor of aesthetics and culture at the Department of Art History, Aesthetics & Culture and Museology.

The associate professorship begins on 1 January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position

The aim of this position is to strengthen the focus on the theory and methodology of aesthetics and culture with regard to the interplay of cultural, aesthetic and digital dimensions of society in a primarily contemporary perspective.

We are seeking an innovative and dedicated applicant who will contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, teaching and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange. The successful applicant is expected to contribute actively to the academic and collegial activities relating to the department’s degree programmes.

Research

Applicants must document research results at an international level concerning the following areas: aesthetics within its cultural context, cultural theory and history, and contemporary aesthetics and culture in combination with the fields of intermediality, media and technology.

Teaching and supervision

The successful applicant must be willing to participate in multidisciplinary teaching and research activities with regard to the interplay of cultural, aesthetic and digital dimensions of society primarily from a contemporary perspective. Applicants must be qualified to perform teaching duties in both culturally and aesthetically oriented subjects, specifically on the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in aesthetics and culture and the Bachelor’s supplementary subject in aesthetic communication. Please consult the academic regulations for a more detailed description of the degree programmes and individual courses. Applicants should specify and explain their qualifications to teach aesthetics and culture, outlining their qualifications in specific courses rather than in all the courses conducted by the department.

Applicants with experience of project-oriented, interdisciplinary and team-based teaching, and of participating in the development of new teaching modules and degree programmes, as well as outreach-related activities, will be preferred. The successful applicant may also have to undertake teaching duties at other departments at the School of Communication and Culture.

Owing to the international orientation of the programme, the associate professorship involves teaching duties in English.
