The School of Mathematics and Physics wishes to appoint two Senior Lecturers in Physics. Candidates should be passionate about teaching and research, and possess the appropriate dynamism, expertise and qualifications to contribute to the academic development of our Physics programmes. You will have a doctoral degree in a relevant specialism, and substantial experience at post-doctoral or equivalent level. The appointees will have developing international research profiles as evidenced by publications in leading journals, and expertise in an applied physics area.
We are particularly keen to develop our capability in quantum information and quantum technologies, but would also welcome applications from other specialisms consistent with our existing applied physics research. You will be expected to enthusiastically integrate your research specialisms into the physics programmes, thus contributing to the University's strategy of research-informed teaching.
The School of Mathematics and Physics was formed within the Faculty of Technology in August 2018, combining our established mathematics provision with our growing physics activity. Physics has recently benefitted from substantial investment by the University in new laboratories and capital equipment. Physics staff work closely with the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, and in REF 2014 96% of our physics research outputs were rated as world leading or internationally excellent.
Applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups in science. We are committed to maintaining and developing organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for men and women.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to seek informal discussions with the Head of School, Professor Andrew Osbaldestin, 02392 846367, firstname.lastname@example.org, or the Director of Physics Programmes, Dr Hooshyar Assadullahi, 02392 842296, email@example.com.
