The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.
Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. Position and Expected Qualifications
The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK (SZ) invites nomination and application for position (rank open) in the area of international affairs & international relations (global studies), broadly defined, including, but not limited to, international relations, international political economy, international economics, regional studies, globalization, global governance, global sustainability, etc..
Candidate for senior position is expected to have excellent teaching experience, distinguished record of publications, and to have attained professorship rank (or equivalent) in competitive institutions. Candidate for junior position is expected to have decent teaching experiences and excellent research record, fluent in English with a PhD degree in related Social Science area, capable to teach in global studies (broadly defined).
Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.
The appointee is expected to commence work from academic year 2019-2020 (the actual starting date is negotiable).
Salary and Fringe Benefits
Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.
