Τhe University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) permanent academic position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in Modern and Contemporary History (European or/and Mediterranean History, 18th-20th centuries)

Requirements for appointment depend on academic rank and include:

  • Prior academic experience. At least a total of seven years of university work or work of equal value after the award of the doctoral title, out of which, at least four shall be years of university work or possession of a post of equal rank in a recognized University.
  • Research record and scientific contributions. Publication of works, such as articles in international scientific journals of well-known reputation or monographs or books of recognized publishing companies, substantiating a remarkable autonomous research work.
  • Involvement in teaching and in the development of high quality undergraduate and graduate curricula.
  • Ability of instructing and promoting research, including the supervision of postgraduate students, instruction or significant contribution in research projects or ensuring of financing research activities.
  • International recognition. Indications of international recognition of the candidate´s contribution to a certain research field, such as research reports, invitations for scientific lectures, assignment of the evaluation of articles, research reports or doctoral thesis, participation in committees for the publication of scientific journals or participation in the organization of seminars.
  • Contribution to the promotion of the teaching and administrative work of the University.

The official languages of the University are Greek and Turkish. In case the selected candidate does not have sufficient knowledge of the Greek language, it is the candidate’s and the Department’s responsibility to ensure that the candidate acquires sufficient knowledge of the Greek language within 3 years of appointment. Each Department sets its own criteria for the required level of adequacy of knowledge of the Greek language.

The annual gross salary (including the 13th salary) for full time employment is:

Professor: (Scale Α15-Α16) - €70,303.48-€91,384.41
Associate Professor: (Scale Α14-Α15) - €62,004.54-€84,532.89
