We have an exciting opportunity for someone with a real passion for research and teaching.  With a ranking of third in the most recent Research Excellence Framework and a consistently high student satisfaction rate in the National Student Survey, we offer a friendly and collegiate environment for you to further your research and teaching. The Department of Politics is an excellent place for early career scholars to launch their academic careers; it provides a vibrant and collegial intellectual environment, opportunities for mentorship and collaboration, and unique support for policy and public engagement.  We are strongly committed to dialogue between the sub- disciplines and to pluralism in theory and method.

The Department values diversity in both intellectual and people terms, and is committed to recognising the important intellectual contributions that female, LGBTQ, racial and ethnic minority and international scholars make.

We are seeking to appoint a lecturer in International Relations and would like to hear from you if you are working on any aspect of international relations (including international studies; international relations theory; global governance; security studies; peace and conflict studies; war studies; diplomacy; and any others).

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is educated to PhD level (or close to completing) or has other relevant qualifications/experience. You will have an excellent research trajectory, which will complement and enhance the strengths of the Department
  • Is committed to developing your research profile through high-quality publications, applying for research funding, supervising research students, and engaging with wider political debate or public policy.
  • Is an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who will play a key role in maintaining the Department’s high level of teaching through devising, designing, preparing, and delivering innovative teaching programmes in relevant specialist areas.
  • Demonstrates an ambition to lead. We are committed to excellence in leadership and your ambition to take on leadership and administrative roles would contribute to the collective enhancement of the Department.

In addition to the online application, you should include (a) a covering letter and (b) a full CV.

The position is available from 1 September 2019.

Prospective applicants are invited to contact the Head of Department, Professor Andy
