This College-based role will provide dedicated support to the School of Engineering whilst contributing to College wide initiatives to improve and enhance the total student experience in the College across the whole student body.

Working closely with the College Operations Manager (Education), College Director of Education and the School Head of Education, the Student Experience Officer (SEO) will devise and deliver a wide range of student experience activities that meet School and College strategic objectives to improve the undergraduate and post-graduate taught student experience. In doing this they will identify opportunities for enhancement and review and evaluate School/College provision in this area and will work closely with the relevant student societies (as appropriate).

The role will be a visible and friendly presence for students and will co-ordinate a range of activities from student exhibitions, managing social media, contributing to student induction programmes, reviewing student survey results and drafting formal action in response to the survey results.

The SEO will contribute to strategic planning and evaluation, be able to identify further opportunities for enhancement and be able to review and evaluate current provision in relation to all aspects of the student experience.

The post holder may occasionally be required to work evenings during University term time in order to meet service requirement, for which prior notice will be given.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • A first degree, preferably in one of the academic disciplines of the College)
  • Demonstrable excellent understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate education and the student lifecycle.
  • Proven experience of supporting students in Higher Education (either in a voluntary or paid capacity
  • Demonstrable excellent networking abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to work with a wide range of academic, support and industrial people as well as with undergraduate/postgraduate students
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative
  • Demonstrable effective team working skills
  • Self- motivated, well-organised and able to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrably thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including use of databases and spreadsheets
  • Understanding of the issues affecting the student academic experience in a Higher Education environment
  • Willingness to learn and understand the direction/vision of the School and College and how this may impact the student experience
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development and training
