The James Watt School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Professor in Electronics and/or Photonics Manufacturing to complement the existing strengths within the Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering Division. The expectation is that in addition to conducting world leading independent research in the area of Electronics and/or Photonics Manufacturing (encompassing electronics, photonics, and/or nano-mechanical engineering) the preferred candidate will also engage significantly and meaningfully with the existing JWNC community to add yet more scientific value to the technologies and components being created within the Nanofabrication Centre.
The selected candidate is expected to have a strong track record and commitment to delivering excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The School of Engineering offers world class teaching in Electronics and Electrical Engineering and across all Engineering disciplines. Willingness to build on and complement our existing portfolio of courses, and develop courses in Electronics and/or Photonics Manufacturing would be greatly valued.
The selected candidate will also be expected to take a senior leadership role supporting the strategic objectives and priorities of the School/College in line with the University’s ambitions, and make a substantial contribution to enhancing a scholarly, research-led ethos within the School/College. In addition, the individual will undertake substantial responsibilities associated with managing external stakeholder relationships that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach and strengthen links with professional bodies and industry.

The James Watt School of Engineering is comprised of 5 Research Divisions including: Aerospace Sciences; Biomedical Engineering; Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure and Environment; and Systems, Power and Energy. The School has 130 staff engaged in all aspects of research and teaching. The annual research income of the School is £19m, and the School is home to the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre, the National Wind Tunnel Facility, the Electronic Systems Design Centre and the Centre for Medical and Industrial Ultrasonics.
