Psychology at NTU

We are the largest provider of fulltime undergraduate psychology courses in the UK and attract eyewatering numbers of applications and hence students. Our most popular course is the single honours degree and to manage the numbers on that degree we are now segmenting it into pathways focused towards our MSc courses. We aim to integrate all levels of our teaching as much as possible and to also draw on our research activity toinform our sessions with students. We have four research clusters which house 12 active research groups. We have particular expertise in the psychology of gambling, driving and sleep.  We support research at all levels and although we are currently focused on the REF we recognize that this is not the only measure of research quality and value. We support staff to develop a research plan that fits within the wide research activity of the Department.

The Department

Our commitment to teaching is shown by the collaboration of over 50 staff to create an introductory text for SAGE (2nd edition published in 2015, 3rd edition in press) and by our showing in the National Student Survey (NSS) where we have been in the top ten of UK Psychology departments for the last three years.
