Please note that this role requires the successful post holder to have Known Consignor status. You will therefore be required to provide employment and/or education history going back for a full 5 years in your application.
A satisfactory basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check result must be required for the successful candidate.
The Ashmolean Museum is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to take up the role of Touring Exhibitions Registrar to cover a period of maternity leave.
The Major Projects & Exhibitions Department is a crucial team within the Ashmolean Museum, responsible for the planning and delivery of cross-museum projects including gallery redevelopments, the programme of temporary exhibitions and displays, and the significant programme of national and international loans and touring exhibitions.
Within this team, the Touring Exhibitions Registrar is primarily responsible for delivering the Ashmolean’s touring exhibitions programme as committed until 2023. This is an exciting opportunity to work with multiple Museum and Gallery partners across the UK and internationally to deliver this diverse programme of 6 exhibitions drawn from the Ashmolean’s outstanding collections of art and archaeology. You will be responsible for managing each of these projects, acting as the main contact for the tour venues and ensuring the successful delivery of each exhibition. This will include managing and coordinating the transportation, insurance and installation arrangements of the exhibitions at each venue, and working with curators internally and externally to the museum to deliver the exhibition content and interpretation as appropriately tailored to each venue. You will need to provide excellent customer service to touring venues, overseeing and helping with every aspect of the project. You will act independently, managing your own work, reporting directly to the Head of Major Projects & Exhibitions. You will be expected to have previous experience of managing the logistics of exhibitions or a loans programme in a museum or gallery or related setting, with the ability to work independently, systematically and to a high level of accuracy, with excellent attention to detail. Primarily an office based role located at the historic Ashmolean Museum in central Oxford, there is some flexibility for working remotely, and there will be times where you will be required to work away for days and occasionally weeks, as it is expected that a fortnight long trip to Australia among other prescheduled trips across the UK will be required as part of this contract.
This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week, fixed-term for 12 months.
Only applications received online by 12:00 midday (BST/GMT) on Friday 24 September 2021 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 October 2021.
