The Oxford Department of International Development seeks to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Forced Migration. The post is fixed-term for twenty months to cover the research leave of a member of the permanent academic staff. The successful candidate will teach core and optional courses on the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies and will form part of the core academic teaching staff of the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), a constituent element of the Department of International Development, and the leading academic centre in the UK and Europe on refugee and forced migration issues. Applicants should have excellent teaching skills and a track record of research and publication, with the potential to make a substantial mark on the field of forced migration in the future.
Applicants must hold or be close to completion of a doctorate in the social sciences, including History, with a focus on forced migration. You should have the experience and ability to take sole responsibility for designing, teaching and convening a full course on the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration degree and to supervise graduate students in a multi-disciplinary environment, as well as carrying out student assessment, examination and course design. Applicants should demonstrate an active research record in the field of forced migration with an excellent academic publication record in peer-reviewed outlets, commensurate with stage of career. We are particularly interested in candidates able to teach a course from a historical and/or post-colonial perspective. You will be expected to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the department, including by taking on the role of Tutor of Admissions for the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies.
