We are looking for an enthusiastic person with good communications skills to work in our busy Corporate Management Accounts team. 

The post holder will assist with the production of monthly management accounts, forecasting and annual budgets.  

Responsibilities will include production and posting of monthly accounting adjustments, forecasts and budgets, along with the maintenance of supporting financial schedules, plus some administration tasks in the finance system planning module.

There will also be ad-hoc project work including process improvements and reporting development. 

We will provide support to enable study towards a professional accountancy qualification.

Corporate Management Accounts is one of five teams within the Management Accounts department, and is part of the Finance & Procurement Directorate.  The team’s main responsibilities are producing management accounts at a university level, controlling the budgeting and forecasting processes, and development of management accounting reports.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with the production of monthly management accounts.
  • Provide support for in-year forecasting and the annual budgeting process.
  • Journal posting and maintenance of supporting financial schedules
  • Updating the finance system with latest forecasts and budgets
  • Handle ad hoc queries relating to Corporate expenditure.
  • Finance system planning module administration.
  • Assist with management accounting process improvements and reporting development.
  • Provision of ad hoc analysis relating to the Corporate budget area and wider university

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  1. Good A levels (grades AAA to include either maths or economics)
  2. At least 1 years’ experience of working in a finance environment/office
  3. Experience of working collaboratively/team working
  4. IT literacy; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (particularly Excel) and the ability to work on new systems
  5. Methodical and detail-oriented, maintaining a high level of accuracy
  6. Confident working under pressure and to tight deadlines

  8. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner
  9. Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as delivering within a team
  10. Curious, and with a commitment to personal accountability and continuous improvement

Desirable criteria

  1. Degree/part degree
  2. Part qualified – accountancy (AAT, CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CIPFA)
  3. Finance software experience: Business World (Agresso)
  4. Experience of working in a large and complex organisation
