Due to internal redeployment, we are looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join our Laboratories & Medical Category Team.  Reporting to the Category Head, the successful candidate will be responsible for a portfolio of capital, revenue and research grant-funded procurement projects, plus strategic initiatives stemming from market engagement and spend analyses.  Providing support is a key element: to the Category Head, including deputising on occasions; and also support and mentoring of other staff, both within the team and across the wider Procurement community.  The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the financial wellbeing of the University through advanced negotiation skills and through-life contract and supplier management.  Sustainable procurement awareness is also critical, in support of the University’s 2040 carbon-neutral target.

The Opportunity:

The University holds a top-20 position as a research-led institution, with a large and growing research income.  You will play a key role in delivering best value from this, supporting the procurement of Goods, Works and Services within the Laboratories category, but will be required to work flexibly supporting the wider procurement team within all categories as required. You will share responsibility for providing a high quality procurement service to University staff in academic and professional services roles at all levels. The post-holder will help shape and develop the service, with responsibility to take forward procurement projects and initiatives across the University.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Forward-thinking team player, good at mentoring and developing others.
  • Strong understanding of procurement tendering systems and processes.
  • Robust commercial and negotiation skills backed by market insights.
  • Excellent communicator, able to act as a persuasive ambassador for procurement.
  • Practical knowledge of contract and supplier relationship management.

Closing date 22nd Oct 2021, 5pm. For a full copy of the job description and to apply please visit the University of Edinburgh website.
