The Henry Royce Institute is the UK national centre for research and innovation of advanced materials. It operates as a hub and spoke model, with the hub at The University of Manchester, and spokes at the founding partners, initially comprising the universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College London, together with UK Atomic Energy Authority and the National Nuclear Laboratory. Imperial is leading the “Atoms to Devices” (A2D) research area jointly with the University of Leeds. As one of nine areas within the Henry Royce Institute, A2D is concerned primarily with the deposition of functional films either by vacuum (top down) or solution processes (bottom up). It also includes the manufacture of powders for thick film deposition. The application areas cover almost all industrial sectors and particularly ICT, healthcare and energy. At the Imperial White City Campus the Henry Royce Institute A2D activity – “Royce@Imperial, will occupy an entire floor of a new research building. The development of the newca £20M laboratories will allow key pieces of equipment to be brought together, including a cleanroom for top-down and bottom-up processing, lithography and device manufacture, and relevant structural and electrical characterisation at all stages in the device fabrication process.
The Royce Research Development Manager will work closely with the both the Royce Research Area Lead at Imperial and The Department’s Director of Research. They will be key in coordinating and establishing a flow of collaborative industrially relevant research activity using to Royce facilities and supporting the academic research priorities of the Department.
Essential requirements: PhD or comparable research experience in a relevant scientific area in the physical sciences or engineering
Education to a minimum of degree level (or equivalent)
Experience of writing and contributing to grant proposals or similar strategic documents Experience of working with a range of stakeholder to deliver successful outcomes
Experience of research collaboration Experience of managing projects
