The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Climate Modelling. We encourage applications from individuals with expertise in the use of numerical modelling to understand the Earth's climate system, with an emphasis on the use of numerical models to translate our understanding of the Earth's past climate system into solutions to Earth's present and future climate challenges. Candidates who are, in addition, able to apply their numerical modelling to the study of climate systems on other planets are also encouraged.

We welcome applicants with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Earth Sciences or allied disciplines. They should be able to demonstrate an outstanding record of research and its communication in a relevant subject and demonstrate their potential to establish a vigorous research programme at an international level, identifying opportunities for their research to be supported by external grant funding.

The appointed candidate will contribute to our rigorous and vibrant programme of teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels and should demonstrate their desire and potential to help inspire future generations of scientists through the delivery of the highest quality education.

The appointments will be made at an appropriate salary for Assistant Professorship (Grade 9), with review after five years and appointment as Associate Professor (Grade 9) to the retiring age thereafter. d) A 300 word statement demonstrating their commitment to promoting an inclusive culture and the participation and achievement of currently under-represented groups in Earth Sciences.

The closing date is 31st January 2022.

Long-listing will take place within one month of the closing date, after which we will contact suggested referees.

Referees will have 6 weeks to provide references before final short-listing will take place. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview.

Interviews will be held during April/May 2022 (in person preferred, on-line option available).

Anticipated start date is 3-6 months after offer acceptance.
