Project and Research Position
The Department of Sociology at the University of Warwick invites applications for a Research Fellow to work on the Open City Project funded by the ESRC.
The three-year Open City project, funded by the ESRC, is led by Professor John Solomos of Warwick Sociology. The CIs on the project are Professor Michael Keith (University of Oxford), Professor Karim Murji (University of West London) and Professor Steve Pile (Open University). We have one Research Fellow in post, Dr Eda Yazici. The new Research Fellow will work closely with Eda on the project.
The Open City Project is an exciting and critical project investigating social and political life of London. In testing whether the utopian ideal of the Open City exists in real life, or how it can be developed, the project centres issues of race, migration, mobility and living with diversity. Using London as its case study, it will explore how the city accommodates new forms of urban life, through the social reconfiguration of its spaces and places, and look at the ways that urban government at the city-wide and borough scales reflect, promote, or limit the idea of the open city.
The position is funded for 18 months from 1st January 2022
We are looking for a Research Fellow to join the team to play a lead role in the London based fieldwork for the project. The project will use a mixed methods approach and ideally the job holders will play a lead role in the quantitative components of the project. Key tasks will involve recruiting participants, conducting and analysing interviews, and writing up research findings for publication.
We welcome applications from sociology and related disciplinary backgrounds and in particular welcome candidates with skills in the analysis of survey data, data visualisation and engagement with demographic data on the changing population of London. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to act as an independent researcher and as part of a team.
Closing date: Monday 29th November 2021
Interviews are expected to take place in the week commencing 13th December 2021 .
