The Academic Section is part of the University’s Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration in partnership with Departments, Schools and Faculties. It plays a central role in delivering the University’s commitment to excellence in education across the institution. The Section is also the guardian of the student experience and leads, promotes and embeds the institutional commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do.
The Student Life Directorate is part of the Academic Section and encompasses Student Development, Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity, and Student Services; all of which support student progression, success and graduate employability.
The Student Development Team enables an integrated approach towards student skills development, through the delivery of employability and careers services, academic skills support and student engagement expertise, in order to ensure that every client has the skills and experiences necessary for success in securing a good degree outcome and a successful graduate employment outcome.
Duties of the Role
Key duties include providing high quality careers advice and support to clients both individually and in groups and designing and delivering innovative, client centred workshops and events. This support will include: CV writing, applications, interviews, creative job search, networking, careers research, using social media, action planning, and personal branding.
Working in collaboration with a team of careers professionals, the post holder will also be required to input into the University’s termly programme of careers events including large scale, University wide and faculty/department specific. You will also be required to work closely across teams to support employer engagement and alumni activities and to develop fresh approaches to support our clients to develop throughout their educational experience to enable them to progress successfully into the next stage of their lives and career.
This is a permanent, part-time post (0.55FTE) to be worked across Wednesday (half-day), Thursday (full-day) and Friday (full-day) of each week.
Skills and qualifications required
This post provides an ideal opportunity for a careers professional to join a team leading on careers advice and events at the University. The ideal candidate will have a University-level degree or equivalent level qualification and a relevant professional qualification related to careers, employability or coaching. Experience of delivering one-to-one careers advice and designing and delivering careers education workshops and programmes is essential.
You will have experience of working with graduate employers and have a good knowledge of current Higher Education careers work and graduate employability. Experience of event management with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail is also required.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to maintain strong relationships and networks.
