The UCL School of Slavonic & East European Studies (SSEES) is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Soviet/Post-Soviet History. This post is part of SSEES’s current programme of academic investments and will make a critical contribution to the School’s unique mission. The School’s History cluster offers interdisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that provide students with a cutting-edge understanding of the history of Central Eastern Europe, Russia, and Eurasia, whilst also equipping them with the latest methodological skills. The School also contributes teaching to the UCL History Department. The School has a strong profile of research in history in all periods of Central, Eastern European, Russian, and Eurasian history. The post-holder will join and develop this vibrant research and teaching environment.

The post-holder will specialise in the history of the Soviet Union and/or its successor states from 1917 and will have linguistic expertise in Russian and other languages as necessary. We welcome suitable applications from specialists in any post-1917 time period and all subfields of Soviet and post-Soviet history, including but not limited to international and transnational history, material culture, gender, sexuality, and the family, memory, emotions, environment, intellectual history, economic history, and race, ethnicity, and empire. 

A PhD in History or a related discipline, Significant postdoctoral research experience or similar, including a developing publication record; with evidence of potential to produce internationally excellent publications. Specialist knowledge of research of the study of Soviet and Post-Soviet History. Specialist knowledge of debates in Soviet and Post-Soviet. Experience of engagement with academic audiences to disseminate and promote research.

Experience of delivering teaching, assessment and feedback at either undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. Excellent communication and presentation skills, including high-level of proficiency in English (verbal and written). Excellent Information Technology skills, including experience of using virtual learning environments and other related learning technologies.

A maximum of three pieces of research for the selection panel to examine.

An outline of a proposed 15 credit (10-week) Undergraduate module in Soviet/Post-Soviet History that you would like to develop and teach.
