The University of Glasgow is seeking a Research Associate within the Institute of Molecular Cell & Systems Biology.

The post-holder will contribute to a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council-funded project, working with Professor Julian Dow in Glasgow. The project is to informatically identify and functionally characterise genes that are essential for function of the major insect epithelial tissues in Drosophila. The post will run alongside a ‘wet’ biologist, in charge of reverse genetics and physiological assays.

Specifically, the job requires bioinformatic, database, web authoring and programming skills for this 3-year project to generate, analyse and curate tissue-specific and single-cell transcriptomics data for Drosophila and other insects. There is opportunity to produce novel meta-analyses of the resulting data, and the successful candidate will be expected to drive research to provide high-profile publications from the work, in addition to providing data analysis, web authoring and semantic web underpinnings for the resource.

This is considered to be a prime opportunity to join a high-profile international project, in a friendly and highly-research active group in one of the UK’s top Universities. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project, as opportunities allow.

This post is offered on a full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term basis until 31st January 2025 in first instance.
