We are looking for a Senior Programmes Officer to join our close-knit Professional Services team; working for the PGCE Teacher Training Programmes within the School of Education, Communication and Society at one of the most highly regarded universities in the UK. The role offers an exciting opportunity to anyone who is interested in providing comprehensive support for high quality teacher training. You will line manage two part-time programme support staff and organise school placements in the Greater London area for all trainees. You will also take a lead role in ensuring QA requirements for the programmes are met, and that we have comprehensive datasets and meet reporting requirements. This would be an ideal role for anyone with a passion for supporting the delivery of excellent education from the heart of London.

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract.

Key responsibilities 

  • Work with relevant colleagues to design and plan the teacher training programme cycles, considering the provision of processes through the academic year, identifying priorities, and demonstrating flexibility throughout the cycle, recognising when priorities change, amending plans and adjusting work patterns accordingly. 
  • To support the School Business Manager with the financial administration of the programmes including providing data for all payments to schools and student bursaries. 
  • To support the School Business Manager with the review of data for annual financial audit of student bursaries. 
  • To engage with colleagues within the Admissions Team in collecting and processing student data for submission to government agencies such as the Department for Education. 
  • To search for secondary schools across the Greater London Area that will offer teaching placements; 
  • To create, implement and maintain records of student and School partnerships. . 
  • To process all paperwork connected with school placements. Including sending DBS information and other key information to schools,  
  • To liaise with academic colleagues in allocating students to placement schools. 
  • To assist in the preparation for Ofsted inspections of the programmes where and when required. 
  • Receive, investigate, and resolve low-level complaints and address service setbacks, exercising judgement and escalating to line manager where required 
  • Engage with and triage students’ pastoral care needs, resolving straightforward issues where appropriate and escalating with, and informing, key stakeholders as per university frameworks 
  • To be responsible for the organisation of mentor training; and mentor resources. 
  • To support the Director of Initial Teacher Education with the organisation of the annual partnership management conference and minute partnership management committees.  
  • To line-manage and work with the PGCE Programme Officers in providing a high-quality service to all students and stakeholders. 
  • To be a proactive member of the School of Education, Communication and Society and work to support the achievement of the School’s objectives. 
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a professional and timely manner, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity. 
  • To maintain an up to date knowledge of the data protection requirements. 
  • Carry out other reasonable responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the post as required.
