As a Software Developer you will deliver software and technology solutions across a range of security projects, working within the Centre of Excellence for Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime Research (CENTRIC). Your role will cross domains such as counter-terrorism, open-source intelligence, serious and organised crime, and humanitarian safety and security.

Our developers work across the technology stack with opportunities for front-end and server-side development through to applications of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. You will have the chance to work on products and services such as dashboards to support situational awareness, social media monitoring and analytics, and mobile and web applications.

You should have an honours degree, equivalent professional qualification, or experience in Computing (or related discipline) and experience of one (or more) of the following:

  • Developing software applications using Java 8 or above, Play Framework, Spring Framework, Akka
  • Developing frontend applications using Webpack, Vue.js or similar.
  • Developing machine learning applications using Python (e.g., with Scikit-Learn, SpaCy, OpenCV, Tensorflow, Keras) or similar
  • Working in production environments

You do not need higher education experience for this role; it is a great opportunity to apply your technical skills and gain experience in the higher education environment, working on prestigious international projects.

We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment. As well as 35 days annual leave and the eight standard UK bank holidays, you also get up to six extra days each year for extended University closure around some UK public/holidays.

For this job we particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic applicants who are underrepresented in this area at Sheffield Hallam.

The University may be able to sponsor the employment of international applicants in this role; this will depend on a number of factors specific to the individual applicant.
