The Institute of Inner-City Learning (IICL), part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David seeks to appoint an Operations Assistant – Domestic at its London Campus (LC).

- THE ROLE –

The post holder will provide general cleaning duties at the London campus of the University. A crucial part of the role will be the requirement to provide excellent support service, and to have the flexibility to support any other operations in order to keep the campus clean and tidy.

Main duties will include:

  • Undertake cleaning duties in a thorough, accurate and timely manner with appropriate attention to detail
  • Ensure machinery such as hoovers and buffers are used in compliance with Health & Safety requirements
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and follow instructions, understanding the use of an established practice, procedure or techniques
  • Move furniture as necessary in order to clean all designated areas
  • Transport necessary cleaning materials and equipment from area to area, and to ensure that they are kept in a clean and safe working order
  • Plan cleaning of own designated areas, in an efficient and effective manner
  • Flag maintenance issues, problems, difficulties or immediately identified faults that prevent you from delivering service as agreed
  • Be aware of and immediately report any potential workplace / personal Health & Safety hazards
  • Occasionally undertake the cleaning of bodily fluids / substances, ensuring that such spillages are dealt with promptly and correctly, in line with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.
  • Maintain records and complete maintenance report forms, as required
  • Be strongly self-motivated and proactive in identifying cleaning requirements
  • Work effectively with, and support other team members to help deliver a high-level cleaning service
  • Work to a set pattern each day
  • Always wear the correct uniform, and the appropriate protective clothing when dealing with all body fluid spillages
  • Follow safety procedures using electrical equipment or technical machinery

- REQUIREMENTS -

You should also have:

  • Ability to communicate confidently in English language
  • Previous cleaning or domestic experience in a work-based setting
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, guidelines and procedures
  • Capable of demonstrating self-motivation
  • Recognises the importance of building sound working relationships
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual, as part of a team and in partnership with others
  • Adopts a positive approach to personal learning and development
  • Ability and preparedness to work flexibly, which may include Saturdays, Sundays, bank holidays and out of normal office hours when required, on a rota system

  • Annual leave entitlement is 28 days annual leave per year (plus 8 bank holidays & 4 University closure days)
