Housing Management Officer (Residential at Mill Street)

University of Leeds

Location: Leeds
Salary: £23,487 to £27,116 p.a.
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 14th January 2022
Closes: 6th February 2022
Job Ref: CSUNI1069

Unipol is a housing Charity established in 1973 by the University and the then Polytechnic in Leeds in co-operation with their Student Unions. In 1997, Unipol became an incorporated Charitable Company with a Board structure.

Unipol provides assistance in finding and supplying housing for students in Nottingham, Leeds and is the main private sector service supplier for the University of Bradford and Bradford College, Leeds Beckett University, the University of Leeds, Nottingham Trent University, The Northern College of Contemporary Dance, Leeds City College and Leeds Conservatoire.

This post entails managing Mill Street with 445 tenants in Leeds City Centre and New York Buildings with 69 students next to the nearby Kirkgate market.  A Senior Housing Manager oversees the management of these two buildings and offers help and support when needed. Over the summer period additional practical assistance is provided by a full-time Housing Management Assistant who helps with re-setting the building for the following year’s occupation.

The post requires that the post holder is residential within Mill Street and is provided with a two bedroom apartment within the complex and because of this a concessionary rent level is charged (currently £311.23 which rises in August every year in line with the RPI for the cost of living relating to the previous May). An energy supplement of £40 is paid every month which is reconciled at the end of each quarter with actual usage. Internet is provided free of charge.

The Housing Management Officer will be the first line of approach for all matters concerning the developments including allocations and lettings, repairs and tenant relations, again, supported by a Senior Housing Management Officer. Certain health and safety routines carry a high level of personal responsibility and must be carried out with accuracy and rigour.

Because of the nature of the Mill Street Development, the Housing Management Officer has a wide range of operational and monitoring responsibilities and coordinates the team of four Residential Assistants who also live in Mill Street, overseeing and staffing responsibilities.

Although the Housing Management Officer will have defined hours of work, in the event of a major incident or emergency taking place at the complex, they will attend and operate as Unipol’s representative on site and direct incidents as necessary, additional payment will be made in respect of any time taken on fulfilling these duties. The Residents’ Assistants operate a rota to be on call for general out of hours issues.

All those working in Unipol are jointly employed by Unipol and the University of Leeds.
