The role
Are you an experienced veterinary surgeon with a post-graduate qualification (e.g. Certificate) in small animal medicine, and ready for a new challenge? Are you ready to step back from clinical case responsibility to focus on education the next generation of veterinary professionals, whilst remaining immersed in your clinical discipline? Bristol Veterinary School is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced veterinary surgeon to be a key player in the design and delivery of teaching in our veterinary and veterinary nursing curricula. Primarily based at our Langford campus, you will be supported to develop your teaching and leadership skills and gain post-graduate qualifications in education. You will make a significant contribution to teaching throughout the curricula. There is no clinical case responsibility associated with this role; you will continue to develop your clinical interests through close interaction with colleagues in the Small Animal Referral Hospital, working with students and staff in clinical rotations, and participating in rounds and journal clubs. You will become a member of a diverse community of dynamic clinical teaching staff providing support for veterinary and veterinary nursing students. Part-time hours will also be considered.
What will you be doing?
We are currently delivering a blended curriculum, with clinical and practical teaching occurring face-to-face, and other teaching activities occurring both in the classroom and online. Approximately 75% of your role will involve development and delivery of classroom-based, online and practical teaching and assessment throughout the curricula, with a focus on small animal medicine. With appropriate experience, training, and support, you will provide leadership in key aspects of the curriculum and student experience.
Approximately 25% of your role will comprise the clinical teaching of our final year veterinary students in clinical rotations, immersed in your clinical discipline. You will work closely with our referral clinicians, first opinion practitioners, nurses, auxiliary staff, and clinical demonstrators to facilitate clinical teaching around a busy caseload, with a focus on small animal medicine.
With appropriate support, you will develop your skills in varied aspects of teaching, assessment, and curricular design, and develop your leadership and organisational skills. As part of the clinical education team, you will contribute to the development and evaluation of teaching and assessment and educational research outputs.
