About The Role
Falmouth University is currently seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Course Leader to join our team and play a key role in leading on the delivery of our highly successful BA(Hons) Illustration course on Falmouth Campus.
The Course Leader will be responsible for the academic leadership and operational management of the course, as well as ensuring our student’s success, from progression on the course, to their graduate outcomes. The Course Leader will ensure the student’s experience throughout their time with us is one that is positive and transformative. You will prioritise inclusivity, diversity and belonging as core principles.
BA(Hons) Illustration at Falmouth University is one of the largest Illustration courses in the UK, with an outstanding reputation in industry. It is taught by a large team of talented Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, Associate Lecturer and Technicians. The leadership of the course will require someone with strong people management skills, to ensure workloads are balanced and work packages are delivered on time.
You will lead the BA(Hons) Illustration course curriculum planning, development and delivery, ensuring a positive student experience and will oversee quality assurance for the course and internal course and module reviews. Alongside this you will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, with the ability to develop strong links with industry partners.
With a rigorous academic underpinning, the course has been designed to support development of innovative visual problem solving and language combined with professional practice creating independent and curious students who are adaptable to change and industry ready. As part of the School of Art teaching and learning team, this is a pivotal role to ensure the ongoing success of one of Falmouth’s flagship courses.
About You
The successful candidate will have experience in leading and managing teams, as well as significant experience teaching in academia at HE level, and have the proven ability to lead people, and inspire students, through innovative pedagogies, whilst bringing specialist insight and professional expertise in Illustration.
You must be highly organised and able to manage your time efficiently and you will be able to demonstrate evidence of people management and leadership.
You will have a good understanding of the technical requirements of illustration, and an up-to-date awareness of current trends, theories and critical debates informing contemporary illustration. You will be able to evidence a strong portfolio as a creative practitioner or researcher in Illustration and have a good network of professionals in the creative industries. Alongside these core qualities, you will be an outstanding educator, practitioner and communicator who can work independently and also part of a team.
