With such a varied portfolio, there is never a dull day in the Estates Team here at Reading. As well as being responsible for the management and maintenance of the University’s academic teaching and research buildings, we also care for a significant collection of Champion Trees, an expansive lake and the university SportsPark. 

We are seeking a highly motivated semi-skilled individual to join the Maintenance Services team, within Estates, as a Property Maintenance Operative.  Maintenance Services deliver reactive and preventative maintenance to university owned properties across all our campuses and sites.

This role will provide flexible and effective support alongside our competent trades operatives, you will need the confidence to work on your own as well as support other team members and have the ability to triage emergency work and make safe, carry out (unsupervised) minor repairs and reactive tasks and assist in the event of plant failures, floods etc. The role will also be responsible for regular routine semi-skilled maintenance tasks such as AHU filter replacements, day to day inspection and refilling of water softeners across the University campus, assist with statutory fire alarm testing, replacement of lamps and the general up keep of plant area. This a key role in ensuring that the maintenance team deliver an effective and efficient service to the University.

You will have:

  • Knowledge of building services
  • Knowledge of building trades.
  • A willingness to work flexibly on a number of different issues whilst maintaining a high standard of work - working  with other teams and on your own
  • An understanding of Health & Safety
  • General IT Knowledge
  • A current driving licence to be able to dirve between campuses.
