About the Department:

Marketing, Student Recruitment and Admissions (MSRA) delivers a professional and responsive service to the School to ensure that student number targets are met by recruiting and admitting well-qualified applicants. This includes development and delivery of exciting marketing campaigns to communicate the values of SOAS and the benefits of studying here, and in-person recruitment across UK, EU and International markets to programmes delivered on-campus, via distance and online learning, and through our partnerships overseas.

In Admissions, the team aims to deliver a professional, fair and efficient applicant experience, whilst providing academic departments with advice on process and acting as the institutional repository for qualifications expertise.

The Marketing, Student Recruitment and Admissions team will work particularly closely with central professional services including, the Global Engagement Directorate, Registry, Student and Academic Services, IT, Legal and Governance, Estates and all the Academic Departments.

About the Role:

The Study Abroad Officer (inbound) is responsible for the management and administration of all aspects of incoming study abroad activity and to ensure efficient and seamless service delivery across the programmes and activities of the Study Abroad Unit, with the aim of assisting the university in meeting strategic targets in student mobility. 

The role includes promotion of inbound study abroad opportunities to current SOAS students, advising on key deadlines and application procedures, organising study abroad information sessions, pre-departure and returners events, liaising with academic schools and professional services on all related support and engagement before, during and after the study abroad year. The postholder in collaboration with the outbound study abroad officer and the Head of Study Abroad and Short Courses and in liaison with the partnerships team and the registry, will build and maintain relationships with partners and provide a high-quality enquirer and applicant experience to student interested in undertaking a period of study abroad at SOAS. They will also be the main point of contact and offer support along the entire INbound applicant journey, from application through to enrolment and will be a key point of contact for all INbound study abroad students during their time overseas.

About you: You will need to demonstrate

  • Relevant administrative experience preferably gained in the higher education sector;
  • Experience of managing relationships with external partners and of successful student recruitment within higher education
  • Proven empathy with students and understanding of the study abroad applications process
  • Knowledge of the application and admissions processes to study abroad programmes in the UK
  • Understanding of current international higher education issues and challenges
  • Knowledge of latest guidance pertinent to study abroad students in the UK
  • In-depth knowledge of SOAS’s study abroad programmes and the rules and regulations governing entry and the students’ progress through the School.
  • Familiar with the use of computer systems; with intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access;
