The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) is a large and dynamic department in the Faculty of Science and Health. The School is internationally known for its research in various areas and offers its students an excellent education. We have enjoyed a period of rapid growth, and we are seeking new technicians to join our dedicated technical team to fill the newly created role of Technical Demonstrator.
Duties of the Role
You will provide day-to-day dedicated technical teaching support for students within the School, working alongside our academic staff. You will support teaching sessions in labs and class, including demonstrating methods and techniques to students in software, assignments, and deliverables. In addition, you will set up practical experiments for teaching sessions, support practical classes, and assist with student projects. You will also have a role in running the School’s teaching laboratories and maintaining/servicing teaching tools. This new role forms part of a more comprehensive scheme of teaching support mechanisms for students.
Skills and Qualifications required
Applicants must have a degree in a relevant subject area (e.g., computer science or electronic engineering), or equivalent academic/professional experience relevant to the post. This should include the ability to program in various languages, including Python or C. In particular, you will need to have detailed knowledge of technical areas related to the post and provide evidence that you can demonstrate complex specialist tasks and procedures to students with a range of competencies and backgrounds. You should have excellent and confident communication skills, empathy, and understanding towards students with mixed abilities. Experience supporting learners in higher education or adult learning environments would be highly beneficial but is not essential.
Please refer to the person specification for the full list of skills and experience required.
