The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the leading scientific research organisations in Europe, with sites in Heidelberg (Germany), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK), Monterotondo (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).

EMBL Heidelberg is looking for a Research Technician to join the group of Dr. Anne Ephrussi in the Developmental Biology Unit. The Ephrussi group is studying mechanisms of mRNA transport and translational control using Drosophila as a model organism and an interdisciplinary approach spanning biochemistry, cell biology, fly genetics and transgenesis, live and high-resolution imaging. The successful applicant will play a central role in maintaining a functional lab and have the opportunity to contribute to research projects of the lab.   

Your role

  • General lab management tasks: organization, ordering, preparation of reagents, etc.
  • Maintenance of the laboratory’s Drosophila stock collection
  • Scientific support for the lab: standard molecular biology (e.g. cloning, PCR, etc.) standard biochemistry (e.g. western blotting, protein expression and purification, etc.), cell biology and embryology techniques (e.g. in situ hybridization, imaging, etc.)
  • Inventory management, shipping of lab reagents. 

You have

  • An undergraduate or advanced degree from accredited university or technical school
  • Experience working with Drosophila melanogaster is highly desirable
  • Experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and/or embryology is essential
  • Highly motivated, proactive personality, and a support- and solution-oriented attitude
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
