The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. We are looking for qualified and committed Course Tutors in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join us at the Centre for English Language Education (CELE).

Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high-quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China. With over 120 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting students on UNNC Preliminary Year modules, presessionals, summer schools and in-sessional language and academic skills support programmes.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified English language teaching professionals able to offer experience and expertise in one or more of the following key fields:

Successful applicants must have a Master’s degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (or similar postgraduate equivalent teaching qualification) with English as a first language (or equivalent competence). University foundation-level preparation and teaching experience, where the medium of study is English, is an advantage. They will primarily join the team responsible for delivering a portfolio of intensive EAP classes and continuing support to students both in the classroom and through online teaching (where necessary). However, dependent on individual tutors’ aptitude and experience, there is also scope for involvement in specific projects around teacher training, the design and delivery of bespoke training packages in various aspects of ESP, and working on pre-sessionals and other commercial programmes. 

Salary will be within the range of RMB 337,904 – RMB 460,527 per annum (pro rata for fractional post), depending on skills and experience, salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The posts will initially be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 3 years starting September 2023 (though earlier starts for exceptional candidates may be negotiated). This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement. 

All posts will be based face-to-face in Ningbo, China and contracts will be with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
