The University of Cambridge is committed to promoting and supporting the development of an Open Research culture, linking researchers and the wider community through shared knowledge to accelerate the pursuit of knowledge and foster international collaboration. We want our research culture to be the very best it can be, because we know that a good culture will attract the best researchers, and in looking after those researchers, we empower them to do their best work.
Cambridge University Libraries (CUL) play a leadership role in this area, partnering with researchers and other parts of the University's professional services to ensure that the right systems and services are in place to support open research practices.
The Open Research Community Manager is based within the CUL Office of Scholarly Communication and reports to the Head of Open Research Services. This role is key to facilitating the sharing of open research expertise between researchers and ensuring that open research services and policies are rooted in the needs of the Cambridge research community.
The post-holder will work closely with the Head of Research Culture (based within the University's HR Division) to ensure that there is strong operational alignment between open research and research culture initiatives.
The role will establish and develop a Cambridge Open Research Community, bringing researchers across the university community together through regular online and in person events to enable exchange of expertise in open and rigorous research practices. They will develop an understanding of how research needs differ across disciplines and use this understanding to inform the development of open research policies and services as part of the University's Open Research Programme, leading projects to further develop these services. They will raise the profile of open research at Cambridge through internal and external engagement in collaboration with researchers and professional services leads across the university.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for five years in the first instance.
